The Dropout Episode 8 Recap
The eighth and final episode of The Dropout, Lizzie. Following John Carreau’s article exposing the spread of Tranos through the media and the public, it opens like a fire. Elizabeth enters injury control mode and talks to all of her board members. He claims that Carrero’s article is full of lies and calls him a sexist journalist. Sunny Balvani, on the other hand, is trying to prevent Walgreens from returning to his deal with Tranos.
Elsewhere, Carrero is angry that none of Theranos’s board members have resigned and continues to support Elizabeth. His publisher, Justbacker, recommended that Carherro continued to write to Theranos. He suggests that Tyler tries to convince the Thranos record.
Meanwhile, Erica Jeong and Tyler will inform the Center for Medicare and Medicine Service (CMS) of the Tharros laboratory anomaly. Then Tyler speaks with his grandfather and Georjism and encourages him to talk to Elizabeth and Thanos.
However, after George, Tyler asked him to go out, which left his relationship in the Amari dots. CMS employee Gary Yamamoto arrives to investigate Theranos Lab. Sunny tries to talk to Gary and manipulate the situation to favor Lanos, but Gary completes the report.
The report has been published and the Theranos lab is closed. Elizabeth tries to blame Sunny and demands that she step down as her COO. However, Sunny offered to rebuild Theranos with her new product and bring her company to breakeven.
However, Elizabeth behind Sunny informs Congress of her resignation. After that, Sunny and Elizabeth separated. George talks to Carreyrou and admits he was wrong to judge Elizabeth. He asks Carreyrou to make a statement on Tyler’s integrity. Theranos faces an uncertain future as Elizabeth’s personal life takes a new turn.
The Dropout Finale Ending: Is Theranos Shut Down?
Towards the end of the episode, a CMS report is released and Elizabeth tries to control the damage through extensive media interviews. However, Elizabeth’s efforts are unsuccessful and one of her laboratories is closed by the CMS.
While Elizabeth hopes to rebuild the company with the new leadership, there is still hope. He made the same point in his 2017 statement. However, the days of Tranos are predetermined and the company is on the verge of bankruptcy. In the final moments of the episode, Elizabeth is seen in an empty office at Theranos, strongly suggesting that the company has seized the operations.
Theranos was even shut down in 2018, shortly after we last saw Elizabeth on the show. In December 2017, Theranos was on the verge of bankruptcy and was briefly bailed out with a loan from Softbank Group.
In April 2018, most of the company’s employees were laid off, and Theranos officially seized all operations on September 4, 2018, after no new investors showed interest in buying the company. The downfall of Theranos remains a grim reminder of the struggles and disillusionment of startup culture and is seen as a wake-up call in Silicon Valley.
